Battling frigid temps and last minute injuries and illness, our middle school track team left it all on the track today at Eastern in the MIC Invitational. With having two of our key, four event kids out of the meet, we scrambled, making last minute changes, including having to scratch all of our relays and place those kids left in individual events. Who would’ve thought that at our final meet of the season, in the middle of May, we would be dealing with wind chills below 40 degrees and intermittant rain. We took our 8 girls and 4 boys and are very proud of the way they performed.
For the boys, we had several finish just out of the ribbons. Trent Monroe had highest honors with a fifth place finish in shot put with a throw of 34’9”. Nate Ferguson took the sixth place ribbon in the discus with a throw of 70’11”.
On the girl’s side, Alison Pemberton was our sole Champion, winning long jump with a jump of 14′ 2.75”. Alison also placed third in high jump, clearing 4’6” but losing first on number of misses. In spite of getting thrown into the race just this morning, she also placed fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:09.41. Also placing on the girls side was Autumn Knapik in the 800. She placed sixth with a time of 3:07.
As coaches, all you can ask is for your kids to push themselves as hard as they can and all 12 kids competing today did just that! Very proud of the great attitudes we had even under these conditions.
