Taylor High School
The Taylor Titans JV squad got back on the winning path Saturday night with a thrilling double overtime win at Carroll. It was a tight game all night long with no team holding more than a six point lead. The Titans had several opportunities to put the game away early, missing several lay-ups in the first and second quarters. The free throw line proved to be a struggle for the Titans as well, as they only connected on nine of 23 shots from the charity stripe. They were four for 14 in the overtime periods alone. They squad never gave up though. Their defense in the overtime periods proved to be the key as the Titans turned up the pressure to force some critical turnovers. Bailey Rostron came up with the biggest stop of the night as he forced his man to turn the ball over with about six seconds left in the 2nd overtime. The ball bounced right to Cash Kelley-Smalley who drove in for the lay-up and the winning bucket as time expired. Kelley-Smalley led the Titans in scoring and rebounding with 11 points and eight rebounds. Damarion Brent had a solid night off the bench scoring 9 points and Clay Murray, Drew Smith, and Caden Sullivan had 5 points a piece. Clayton Brown hit the glass hard, grabbing 6 boards and Sullivan added 5 rebounds. The win pushes the JV’s record to 7-12. They close out their season Tuesday night February 21st when they play Maconaquah. JV tip off is at 6:00pm.
