The Taylor Titans JV squad hosted the visiting Rossville Hornets Friday night at Center Court. The Titans came out sluggish, putting themselves in an early hole. They didn’t defend well and were late closing out on shooters. The Hornets quickly built 12 point lead after one quarter. Taylor responded offensively in the 2nd quarter, putting 22 points on the board. They stepped up a little on the defensive end as well, holding Rossville to 13 points in the 2nd and cutting their lead to three going into the half. Clay Brubaker beat the buzzer at the half with a three to cut the lead to three. Both teams came out of the locker room slow to start the 3rd quarter. They scored 13 points combined in that quarter and Rossville took a six point lead into the final period. The Titans slowly started chipping away and pulled even with about four minutes to go in the game. The game took a wild turn as the visiting coach was called for two technical fouls after an offensive foul call against his team. Jayden Davis hit 2-4 free throws that put the Titans up by four with about 2:30 minutes to go. The Titans were able to seal the game from the line, going 12-18 in the final quarter. Davis led the Titans in scoring with 12 points. Toric Spires came off of the bench and added 10 points and had six rebounds. Jalyen Harris added eight points and Drew Smith had six. Jaylin Reece had four rebounds. The win moves the Titans to 7-11 on the season. Their next game is Saturday night at home versus Carroll. JV tip is 6:00 pm.
