The Taylor Titans boys soccer team hosted Blackford Tuesday night. The Titans started of slow, giving up a goal in the first two minutes of the game. Taylor struggled to control the ball throughout the half and got down quickly as a result. The score was 6-0 late in the first half when senior Sivert Karlsen scored unassisted to get the Titans on the scoreboard.
The Titans came out in the second half playing much better. They had better possession and were able to work the ball up the sides. That lead to crosses into the middle, which led to scoring chances. The Titans opened the second half scoring about 10 minutes in when sophomore Zach Schesser was in the right place at the right time to score the first goal of his career. Less than a minute or two later, Josh Bowman got on the end of a Karlsen pass to score his second goal of the season. That goal made the score 6-3. Blackford finally answered about midway through the second half to push the lead back to four. Karlsen scored again with a header off of a set piece with the assist going to Jaylin Reece. Reece got another assist later in the game when he crossed a ball into the box and Noah Merrell buried it with a beautiful left footed volley. That cut the lead to 7-5 and unfortunately ended Taylor’s scoring for the night. With the back and forth action late in the game, the Titans gave up two more goals to lead to the final score of 9-5. Coach Wiley was pleased with the offensive breakout and saw some really good things from the squad. The loss drops the Titans to 0-8 on the season. Their next game is Wednesday night when they play at home against Rossville. Game time is 5:30.
