The Taylor Titans Boys Soccer Team took the field Monday night for their Salute to Service Night. The Titans wore special jerseys to honor local firefighters and hosted meal for any firefighters, EMT’s and first responders who were in attendance. The visiting Sheridan Balckhawks started the game quick, scoring with just under one minute coming off of the clock. The Titans defense settled in after that and played a very good half. They gave of a couple of “Trash” goals due to lack of not getting the ball cleared off of the back line which lead to a 4-0 halftime lead for the visitors. The Titans played even better in the 2nd half. Brett Baer came out of goal at the start of the half and was replaced by Truman Howerton. Baer, along with fellow seniors Joe Chasteen and Clay Murray led the charge up front for the Titans in the 2nd half. The Titans caught a lucky break on their 1st goal when Baer put a corner kick right into the middle of the box. A Blackhwks player went for the clear and miss hit the ball causing it to fall to the back of the net. The Titans 2nd goal came from Chasteen on a free kick from about 35 yards out. The kick was taken from the left side and curled beautifully to the back post for the goal. Owen Shimer also played well. In the 2nd half, he pushed forward to provide support for the offense and played back when needed to strengthen up the defense. Baer ended the game with 12 saves and Howerton had 10 saves. The loss drops the Titans to 0-8. Their next game is Wednesday night when they travel to Rossville for a 5:30 match with the Hornets.
