The Taylor Titans boy soccer team took to the field again Wednesday night for a game against the visiting Tipton Blue Devils. The Titans are still short-handed but came ready to play. In a show of great sportsmanship, the Blue Devils dropped down to even the sides and played the Titans 8 vs 8. This really opened the field of play up and allowed for a lot of wide open space to play in. The quick front line of the Devils proved to be trouble for Taylor early in the game as the Tipton raced out to a quick three goal lead. The Titans finally settled in and played well over the next 25 or so minutes, not allowing a goal. During that 25 minutes, the Titans had several good pushes forward into the offensive third of the field. On one such run, Cole Boruff got into the 18yd box and drew a foul on the Blue Devils. The foul resulted in a penalty kick for the Titans. Senior goalie Brett Baer stepped up to take the kick and buried it into the high right side of the goal. That goal was the first of Baer’s career. The numbers game eventually caught up with the Titans as the visitors were able to sub in fresh legs through out the game and the Titans slowly wore down. Truman Howerton played a great game through the mid-field and defense and Owen Shimer played well rotating to positions all over the field. Baer ended the game with 13 saves. The loss drops the Titans to 0-3 on the season. They have a quick turn around as they play again Thursday night at Northwestern. The game carries a 5:00 start.
